LEAVING A LEGACY;

ARE WE PREPARED TO LEAVE ONE?

A "legacy" is defined as "a gift...left to someone...," and "anything handed down from the past, as from an ancestor."  As Psalm 119:130 "The unfolding of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple." In other words  Sometimes the things you do for yourself is a domino effect that ultimately helps others.

For those who are leaders whether in political arena or religious field the legacy of leadership is more focusing capacity of leader in leading  and behavior of organizing.

Capacity is having the knowledge, skills, training, technical know-how and experience that makes a person take the lead in his given field.

Behavior talks about the priceless virtues that makes a person special such as honesty, integrity, selflessness, humility, patience and inner strength.

We talk about the legacy of Nyerere and Nkwame Nkurumah and other leaders Leadership legacy  were more focusing on the following areas;

PEACE, HUMILITY, MODESTY, RESPECT, THE FEAR OF GOD, HARD WORK, RESPECT FOR HUMAN RIGHTS, the RULE OF LAW and a good SENCE OF HUMOUR.

For our current leaders what kind of legacy are you intending to leave as a legacy to your people to remember you?

Therefore Your life is your legacy, make it count.

DO WE ALWAYS CHANGE DIRECTION OF THE WIND TO ADJUST OUR SAILS?

  • “We must be the change we want to see.” Mahatma Gandhi

  • “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.” Reinhold Niebuhr

  • “I can’t change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination.” Jimmy Dean

  • “A fanatic is one who can’t change his mind and won’t change the subject.” Winston Churchill

  • “Failure is not fatal, but failure to change might be.” John Wooden

  • “Not everything that is faced can be changed. But nothing can be changed until it is faced.” James Arthur Baldwin

  • “The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.” Carl Rogers

  • “I’ve noticed that even people who claim everything is predestined and that we can do nothing to change it look both ways before they cross the road.” Stephen Hawking

This saying reminds us that, Change is not as difficult as we lead ourselves to believe. It does require sustained focus and commitment, but it is reachable. In other words it means that You can’t change the direction of the wind but in adjusting your sails you will be able to move along and enjoy the view; the philosophy behind it is that looking  at the real situation of sailing ships, sometimes the wind blew from the wrong direction, in order to reach the destination  sailors had to adjust the sails accordingly in order to stay on course.

How can we apply this saying in our daily life?

In our daily life, the wind represents a problem that might occur in our life, such as finding yourself in a situation which makes you unhappy. Hence rather than trying to change the person or situation causing the unhappiness, change the way you tackle it. In other words maybe But it means don't try to change what's influencing you, change yourself; concentrate on yourself making a change don't blame your atmosphere for a problem,.

In Christians life, every Christian with a commitment to excellence and a yielded heart to the Holy Spirit will regularly see needed areas of adjustment and growth. At these points, we must seek the power of the Holy Spirit and purposefully cooperate with Him as He works change in our lives

But when we are in hard time we need to our adjust our sails catch the winds and move briskly into the future. Let change our thoughts and behaviors we need to avoid the stereotypes, prejudices judgements.

Once we accept our strengths and weaknesses, we can work on what needs to be changed. Sometimes we don’t see a change in our lives because we are not ready to change our behaviors.

HOW TO CONTROL LIFE?????

“You need to learn how to select your thoughts just the same way you select your clothes every day. This is a power you can cultivate. If you want to control things in your life so bad, work on the mind. That's the only thing you should be trying to control.”

Why are we judgmental towards others?

We’ve all heard it before, but no one is perfect. There is not one person who has lived who has not made a mistake. Walt Whitman advised us that “Be curious, not judgmental.”

“I am grateful that I am not as judgmental as all those censorious, self-righteous people around me.” – Anonymous

But the problem is that we as human beings we are all judgmental. Yes, even me. I certainly am, many times. I think it’s human nature but I think we make it as a habit and we can practice not to be one. Although  it is in our nature to be judgmental, I don’t think it’s always useful to us. We always prefer to  look down on others, and feel that as if we are so much better than “them”. You know what by doing so we always create division between people.

As human being we so quickly  pass judgment to someone, based on their looks or actions.  The problem we don’t make effort of even knowing or understand them, or see whether our judgment was right or not. "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.

Principles of stopping judging others:

  • If you find yourself being judgmental, stop yourself, and observe your thoughts. Instead of judging someone for what he’s done or how he looks, try instead to understand the person. Put yourself in their shoes. Try to imagine their background..

  • Once you begin to understand, or at least think you kind of understand, try to accept. Accept that person for who he is, without trying to change him. Except that he will act the way he does, without wanting him to change.

  • Once you’ve accepted someone for who he is, try to love him. Even if you don’t know him. Even if you hated him in the past.

The bible reminds us that we must reserve our judgement and understand that everyone sees things differently and Only God is and will judge us when the times comes. Matthew 7:1-23 "Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

In world eyes we must remember that what is right to us may not be right for another. We cannot judge what people should or should not do. In spite of this, we can still share our opinion and be forceful in doing so. Being non-judgemental does not mean staying silent about what we believe, it simply means acknowledging that others can believe differently. These differences are not a problem, they are something to celebrate.
Therefore do we think that we can avoid passing judgment and instead build a bridge between two human beings. Let’s face it, you cannot expect perfection in people unless you are perfect yourself. You cannot judge and condemn the behavior of others unless you can say that your behavior is impeccable and beyond reproach.

THE ROAD TO SUCCESS

The road to success is not straight. There is a curb called Failure, a loop called Confusion; speed bumps called Friends; red lights called Enemies;caution lights called Family. You will have flats called jobs. But, if you have a spare called Determination; an engine called Perseverance; insurance called Faith, and a driver called Jesus, you will make it to a place called Success!!

THE OBJECT OF OUR FAITH JESUS.

Jesus is the object of our faith. He is truly worthy of our trust. By placing our faith in Christ, we received not only the blessings He has planned for us, but His very life. Paul tells us, "It is through faith that a righteous person has a life." (Galatians 3:11)

Faith is not just a mental assent to a set of facts. In the case of saving faith this is certainly true – saving faith must have an object. We all believe in something, and as demonstrated, what we believe works its way out in how we behave.

The human tendency is to have faith in what is seen, and to easily believe in the power of something tangible instead of intangible.  As we walk by faith, we believe in Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.  We do not put our faith in objects and things we use as points of contacts.  We know they, in themselves, contain no power.  The power, the honor and the glory belong to Jesus, the Christ, our Lord and Savior.

"Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see."

Luke’s account of “Jesus Stills the Storm” phrases the question Jesus asks His disciples differently than Mark’s Gospel.  Luke quotes Jesus as asking: ”Where is your faith?”  “to see that the critical factor in their faith is not its strength, but its object.”

The true faith of the child of God IS Christ Jesus, He IS the object of our faith

“That’s because it’s not the quality of your faith that saves you, it’s the object of your faith.  It doesn’t matter how you feel about the branch; all that matters is the branch.  And Jesus is the branch.”
Isaiah 40:31 - But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be

 “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst. – John 6:35
Therefore Faith without works is dead. I submit to you that Faith without the work directed by God the Father, by the Holy Spirit, through Christ Jesus is dead.

Mother/Woman’s love—stands the test of time, logic, and all circumstances.

Steve Harvey wrote that, “Nothing on this planet can compare with a woman’s love—it is kind and compassionate, patient and nurturing, generous and sweet and unconditional. Pure. If you are her man, she will walk on water and through a mountain for you, too, no matter how you’ve acted out, no matter what crazy thing you’ve done, no matter the time or demand. If you are her man, she will talk to you until there just aren’t any more words left to say, encourage you when you’re at rock bottom and think there just isn’t any way out, hold you in her arms when you’re sick, and laugh with you when you’re up. And if you’re her man and that woman loves you—I mean really loves you? —She will shine you up when you’re dusty, encourage you when you’re down, defend you even when she’s not so sure you were right, and hang on your every word, even when you’re not saying anything worth listening to. And no matter what you do, no matter how many times her friends say you’re no good, no matter how many times you slam the door on the relationship, she will give you her very best and then some, and keep right on trying to win over your heart, even when you act like everything she’s done to convince you she’s The One just isn’t good enough”.

How Bible  decorates woman's life and love?

Proverbs 31:10 An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels.

Proverbs 11:16 A gracious woman gets honor, and violent men get riches.

Genesis 2:18, 22-24 Then the LORD God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” … And the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

Proverbs 31:26 She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.

Proverbs 14:1 The wisest of women builds her house, but folly with her own hands tears it down.

Song of Solomon 4:1 Behold, you are beautiful, my love, behold, you are beautiful! Your eyes are doves behind your veil. Your hair is like a flock of goats leaping down the slopes of Gilead.

God is looking for imperfect men and women who have learned to walk in moment-by-moment dependence on the Holy Spirit. Christians who have come to terms with their inadequacies, fears, and failures. Believers who have become discontent with ‘surviving’ and have taken the time to investigate everything God has to offer in this life.Charles Stanley

If you missed an opportunity doesn't fill the eyes with tears;

One day I was talking to a group of youth and we were discussing the role of parents in helping youth how to utilize different types of opportunities in their life; we started the discussion with the quotation “Winning horse does not know why it runs the race. It runs because of beats & pains” but to us
everything in life, including success is about making choices.

We realized during the discussion that life and the World are going very fast if we want to touch the foot of success we  also have to go very fast otherwise we will never be able to touch the foot of success. And the good thing God is waiting somewhere above to give us His grace and send His love in whatever our cross, whatever our pain but God always sends a rainbow after the rain.

It is possible to miss an opportunity if we sit  back and wait for the need to come to us. We have to go after it. Otherwise we will end up shedding tears. Tears tell us that there is a problem, hence a signal  of our need for compassion from others. Tears  gives us the opportunity to connect with others and receive comfort; it is a sign of earthly path is blocked all around, when we are provoked on every side.

When everybody accuses “you” of being wrong, and all your environment seems to revolt against you,If you missed an opportunity doesn't fill the eyes with tears;”  then this is the time you should shed a few drops of tears before God;

Tears are signs of guiltness. There is something that you want badly in life but you don’t have. Guilt arises due to your focus on what you have not done so far to get the object of your desire

Whether your guilt will help you or break you, will depend upon where you put your focus on. You can either focus on what you have lost, what you have done wrong, or, you can shift your focus on doing something towards the associated desire. If something is causing you a lot of guilt, you have to make a commitment to work towards the desired goal attached to this guilt. That desire, is demanding fulfillment.

One scholar once wrote that “the reality is that people who do well in life are not usually ‘lucky’… nor or they necessarily “smarter” than we are; they just made the decision to follow a different path rather than just accept the status quo. Unfortunately life is not based on a singular decision, but a series of daily choices that will in turn define your actions…. but they will be worth it in the end! Success is attainable for anybody who is willing to work towards it – it's all about making choices”.

It is true that every day opportunities are available to us. How do we make sure that we don't miss any? The first step is to be open minded and listen to your personal call. Opportunities can come to us through many different avenues and in various forms.When an opportunity is presented to you, keep an open mind and explore the benefits. Trust your feelings if it will lead you to your goal?

Therefore we should keep in mind that each opportunity has its own unique qualities, benefits, and level of results we can't change the past but we can alter your future in any way you want. And if you use your opportunity very well there is no need of shedding tears at the end. The Bible reminds us that It has been often and truthfully said, that if there could be regrets in heaven, those regrets would be, that we have wasted so many opportunities of honoring Christ on earth, opportunities which will then be gone forever.
